A weird year! It’s just seemed like a weird year for New Year’s reflection! Usually I’m all about analyzing my past 12 months, thinking about the future, figuring out my “word,” deciding what I’d do differently in the upcoming months.
This year, I got NUTHIN! Nada! Zip! Zilch! I tried to come up with goals and resolutions and all that stuff, just like the rest of the world. But for reasons I don’t understand, nothing significant came to mind!
Then a friend posted this saying on Instagram, and bam! There it was – the thing that I was looking for. I’ve been journaling lately, writing things I’m grateful for, and trying to be more mindful. I’m adding an item that Pat suggested, over at Retirement Transitions, “What is the most important thing I did [yesterday]?” Brilliant, huh? Thanks, Pat! But now I’ll be also be considering this:
What do I resolve to do TODAY?
I just didn’t want to make great big, year-long goals, that would end up abandoned or forgotten by the third week in January. I may not be able to stick to the resolution to lose a gazillion pounds. But I’m pretty sure I can decide to eat a salad for dinner. Baby steps. Call a friend. Go for a walk. Do some yoga today. Yeah, I can make those resolutions stick! Have a wonderful, mindful weekend!
Happy Friday, Voyagers! Today, I hope you remember that the best portions of your life have nothing to do with Christmas presents or all the other trappings of the season! Instead, I hope you all truly enjoy those special moments gathering with those you love! Have a wonderful weekend, and
Happy Friday, Voyagers! It’s been a week full of learning for me. A little challenging, a little frustrating, a lot of fun! One of the critical components of a successful retirement voyage is that you not stagnate. That you always have something that will challenge you, drive you, motivate you to get out of your recliner chair. My hope for you this weekend is that you will rekindle some interest – find some curiosity within. So how about it – what new things will you learn next?
I hope as the weekend approaches you take a moment to consider those Christmas traditions you hold dear. Are you doing things simply because you’ve “always done it that way?” Are you exhausting yourself chasing some self-imposed standard that no longer meets your needs? Instead, I would invite you to consider which activities, decorations, and traditions truly hold a special meaning for you. Pursue those! Have a peaceful and heartfelt weekend!
Happy Friday fellow Voyagers! Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone, we’ve survived Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and we’re well on our way to rushing toward the holiday where we feel the need to buy more, do more, decorate more, celebrate more. The race is on…only 25 days till the big day, and soon the papers and televisions and computer screens will be reminding you that you must hurry, hurry, hurry.
So I hope after this week’s post reminding you to see the “wonder” in things, that you’ll take a moment to slow down, take a deep breath, and be grateful for this moment ~ right now. Have a fabulous weekend!
Can you believe we’re heading into Thanksgiving already? Wasn’t it just summertime about a second ago? And before we know it, Christmas will have come and gone. In all the rush, I hope you will take a moment each morning and ask yourself two questions:
What’s really important today?
What’s not so important at all?
I wish you a peaceful weekend, taking the time to enjoy those things that really matter!
Happy Friday, everyone! I hope you take a moment to recognize that you get to choose how to react to all the chaos that surrounds us. Don’t let yourselves become needlessly outraged. Take a deep breath. Recognize all the good, and have a wonderful weekend!
