About Us

Lynn and Jeremy Pic

I’m Lynn and he’s Jeremy.  In 2010,  I quit my teaching job after 27 years.  The following May, Jeremy was laid off from his job working for a national engineering firm.  What followed was some panic, motivation, commitment and start from scratch reinvention.  Since we started this Encore Voyage, our heads and hearts have nearly exploded with all we’ve had to learn – about retirement, about second act careers, about being together 24/7, and about what’s really important in life.

About Lynn – Lover of books, boxer dogs, music and friends.  I have lots of wanderlust, but I also lust after a great burger and lemon drop martini on my own patio.  A compulsive neat freak and over-organizer, and a self proclaimed grammar nerd.  I can be found on my knees in my garden, or quilting at my sewing machine.  I’m a pretty lousy golfer, but believe that golf is really about giggling, and of course, lunch out!  And I’m a teacher….in the past, now, and for always…a teacher!

About Jeremy  An architect by trade, he’s the only person in the world more fussy than me.  He picks up after me when I make a mess.  Raised in a small town in timber country, he’s equally comfortable with a chainsaw or in a sport coat/drinks beer or wine! (I’m a lucky girl!)  Has loved Looney Tunes since he was a little boy.  Lover of history and finance.  Believes it’s his job to make me feel cherished. (See what I mean about ‘lucky?’)

An Encore Voyage is about starting out fresh, with a new look at how you live your life.  It’s about being as young as you feel, and realizing that it’s never too late to do what you love.  It’s about discovering that retirement is not an age, and that baby boomers do and see things a lot differently than other generations.  On this blog you’ll find things we’ve learned, adventures we’ve had, some missteps we’ve made, and hopefully, some inspiration and courage to pursue your own voyage.  I’ll most likely throw in some nonsense and musings that occur to me as we go down this new road.  I hope you’ll introduce yourselves in the comments section and share your own journey.

How exciting for you both to be “starting over.” I, too, have been in education — for almost 48 years now!!! And still feel that I’m a teacher always just as you do. Thanks for following our travel blog, Oh, the Places We See. It’s exciting to have the time to pick up and go wherever we want to go. Best wishes to you both in your new journey.

Lynn nice to meet you. We too had an unexpected move into my retirement. Turns out to the BEST move ever. Loving life and living to the fullest. I can highly recommend anyone make the change and enjoy your life and loved ones now. I would not change a thing.

The two of you sound like my kind of people! … martini lovers with questionable golfing ability, and a love of Looney Tunes!!

Hi Jan, thanks for stopping by! Actually, after I retired from teaching, and then started doing some consulting work, someone called it my “Encore Career” and the name for my blog was born! I’m glad to ‘meet’ you and look forward to following along!

Hello again! Just thought I’d pop over and check out your “about” page as well. So…it seems to me that you are a pretty “cool kid” too 🙂 Gardening, grammar-ing (I ❤ grammar), sewing, teaching! I used to sew when I was a kid, but I just don't have the patience anymore. And quilting to boot! Wow! I marvel at the attention to detail that takes. I love looking at quilts…you know, at fairs, craft shows, museums… As for plants, I enjoy them, but they take one look at me and fall over dead. I'm a tad bit jealous of your retirement, and I love the name of your blog. This is what I missed about WP while I was not writing. Writing, yes, yes, but discovering other blogs and making connections with other writers with interesting lives and stories, that's what blogging is about in my world. So happy to have done the "Just Jot it January" and found your site!
