Erm….Hi Guys! Remember me? It’s Lynn from an Encore Voyage. You remember me, that retired teacher chick with the architect hubby who decided to start all over again? Well, I could use your help here cuz:
I Can’t Breathe!
We actually did it! On Tuesday, we put the down payment on a 2019 Pleasure-Way Plateau FL. And I’m about to have a heart attack! First, because the dang thing is just a bit pricey! Second, because we are finally spending some of our retirement money! I’ve heard it’s a big step to go from accumulation to distribution! For sure! I was really freaking out until we called our financial adviser and she said, “You guys are fine. You need to enjoy your retirement! This is what you worked a lifetime for!” This is where you come in. Comment now…things like, “It’ll be OK, Lynn.” and “No worries, you’ve got this!” Yeah, thanks for that!
So we’ve taken the plunge, and now the Voyage truly begins! We have so much to learn and I’m just a little bit scared. We are total RV newbies and even though I always try to study up about every. little. thing, I’m pretty sure this will be a steep learning curve.
Oh yeah, one more thing. He needs a name, dontcha think? “Halen” has already been taken (think about it…), but I’m open to suggestions for other great “Van” names!
And thanks again for not completely abandoning us when we disappeared for awhile. The Voyage just got way more real! And we invite you to come along on the journey!
Congrats, Lynn. I love the PleasureWay vans. Worth every penny. Handcrafted interiors, built in Saskatoon; we toured their plant once years and years ago. I look forward reading about your adventures with it. As I recall, it just cries out, “Let’s get on the road and have fun!”

Someone asked us, “Where do you want to go first?” And I replied, “Everywhere!” We were so impressed with the fit and finish of the Plateau – and I originally started out looking at Airstreams! But this had a lot more going for it!

Congratulations (and nice to see you back in blog land)! There are some great RV blogs (we don’t RV, but I find them interesting anyway) that, if you don’t already, you might want to follow. Great travel tips and general RV info. It can be hard to spend big chunks of change in retirement, but like your advisor said, that’s what you worked for.

Yay, congratulations Lynn and Jeremy!! You’ve done it. And, a tad quicker than I anticipated. 🙂 He/she looks like a beauty. Careful on the potholed roads, curved and steep driveways of stores, and speed bumps… Other than that, have fun!! If you have any questions, please shoot!

Thanks so much Liesbet! You guys were pretty instrumental in inspiring our wanderlust in the first place! I’m sure we’ll have lots of questions as we dive into this adventure! Thanks for the encouragement ~ Lynn

That very thought is what compelled us to do this. Waiting for “some day

Dang typing on my phone! I was going to say, waiting for “some day” was only getting I’d one thing – older! So we decided to start living the journey NOW! Thanks! ~ Lynn

Lynn – Yes – TODAY is someday! Good for you for taking the plunge. My Financial Advisor keeps telling me we are fine also… but I understand how hard it is to spend after a lifetime of saving. Hey, I still clip coupons and wait for sales!
I’ve been thinking about doing a Rt 66 Drive – it’s on my wish list, but not sure about the RV part of it….it just looks so small! LOL.
Looking forward to hearing more about the journey, including dealing with the small space. And yes, I’ve missed you in blog-land… was just thinking of you the other day as I was talking about people who no-longer blog (!).
Oh, and names…. I saw the PW (Pleasure -Way) and small… PeeWee? LOL.

Hi Pat! Happy to be back! Yes, the PW is small. It’s not so much a motor HOME, as it is a TRAVEL van. We are not really planning on living in it. We think of it more of a large (ish) van with a potty and a fridge! I’m not planning on cooking in it. Just need a fridge to keep the salami and cheese chilled to go with the wine! We want to be able to move around in cities, visit art galleries, etc. We can sleep in it when we want – like at camp grounds, or will stop every few days for a hotel with unlimited hot water and a large shower! At least that’s the plan. More post to follow on how this works out!

Hey Lynn,
Congrats on the new “home” on wheels…we just took the plunge, too, but bought a 24 ft travel trailer. Thought about a van, but the price was just too much for us! And, although I am def a fan of downsizing, this is a bit too tight a space -even for me.
I’ve done a lot of research – there are some great RV sites out there.
Also, the Campendium app is super helpful, especially for finding free camping.
And, we have joined Boondockers Welcome, where other RVers offer their home and property as free or lowcost camping locations – especially good for overnights and short stays.
We’ve also heard of Harvest Hosts – and met up with a couple at a microbrewery in the Finger Lakes region of NYState that LOVES that resource.
Above all, have fun and enjoy the adventure!

Hi Lady, I realize you posted this a while ago, but man, you were off the radar much too long. Glad your back and can’t wait to follow your new adventure. A couple of friends just got back from a three month West Coast adventure (pulling an Airstream). They accumulated a lifetime of great stories, met some wonderful people along the way and are already planning the next trip. Sometimes you just need little courage to take a great leap of faith. Congratulations!
