I truly believe in the motto, “Life is about collecting experiences, not stuff!” We’ve been off in the last couple of weeks collecting our experiences in sunny Arizona. It seems I always try to have our next adventure somewhere in the planning stages. (Next month – Kauai!)
But new experiences don’t necessarily need to come from travel. Sometimes those experiences can be found in our own backyards. There are a million things around here to try! Just this morning I saw a “glass fusion” class advertised on Groupon! Our city has a rich community education program, or perhaps we might just check out the winter landscapes in one of our beautiful parks.
So how about you, fellow voyagers? Where will you locate your next “changing horizon?”
Trying new things and being creative keep a person young.

I don’t do much physical traveling these days but my mind and body is always on the look out to learn something new! It’s pickelball as soon as the weather breaks here.

We were just talking about pickleball at lunch today! My girlfriend told me to watch it on YouTube so I could get an idea what it’s like! ~ Lynn

In our travels around the country, we always checked the TripAdvisor entries for whatever city we stopped in. When we got back to our former home in Minneapolis, we tried TripAdvisor there and found many things we had never seen or done before. Use your computer and get out of the usual.

That’s great advice! I’ll be sure to do that for our trip to Kauai! ~ Lynn

You are inspiring me to get back to those small, joyful experiences as soon as I am able. Last week hubby and I went to one of my favorite food stores. I had to be careful not to overload on yummy breads (wonderful bakery)! It was a joyful morning of leisurely shopping… and we were surprised to find out it was Senior Day and got a 5% discount. Hubby, not me. 🙂
This is the second reference about taking glass classes in less than 2 weeks… is the universe trying to tell me something?

I think we should try it! (“Listen to the voices” is what hubs always says!)

Hi, Lynn – I totally agree with you that life is about collecting experiences. And more of those experiences can be found in our backyards than we first realize. We just need to remain open to them. Thank you for sharing this!

I’m a firm supporter of collecting memories! There are a couple of local ‘treasures’ that have been on my New Things List for a while, and they’re finally scheduled on my calendar to visit over the next week. Although I’m not adverse to going off to do things on my own, these particular places I wanted to do with a friend … but scheduling friends is not always easy!!

So true, Joanne. Sometimes my friends and I schedule activities on our calendars three weeks to a month in advance! ~ Lynn

You are so right about having things in your own backyard. I’m guilty of planning travels and discovering new places but I also see opportunities through Groupon and Scoopon which spark interest. It is just a matter of becoming away what is avaialbe and then just doing it! Have a great week and thanks for the reminder to really look at my Groupon emails instead of deleting them!

If it makes you feel better, Sue, I delete Groupon emails by the boatload, too!

Hi Lynn, I like the quote in your header photo. Also agree with you life is about collecting experiences. I explore my city often, and am also planning a trip to Chile in March.

I’ve always been a fan of “expanding my horizons” and encourage everyone to do so, whether it is with travel or other experiences as you so rightly point out, Lynn! Our personal horizons will change in a week or so, when we are off to Arizona as well.
