Some people start diets, some people make resolutions to get fit, to eat right, to save more money. I don’t know what happens to me, but I become a paperwork fiend!
I must admit that I am an organizational guru! If you were to blindfold me, stand me at my front door, and ask me to put my hands on pretty much anything in my home, I’d be able to find it…unless it is made of paper.
I think it happens as a result of preparing for the next tax year. Time to file the remainder of the last year’s bill statements, and purge the files to prepare for 2018. But one thing always leads to another. I start filing one thing, and then end up cleaning out another storage box. That, in turn, leads to cleaning out the top drawer of my desk – gotta organize those paper clips, ya know – which leads to cleaning out the other desk drawers.
Wait…what is on all of these flash drives? I certainly don’t need to keep student data from 10 years ago, and hey – this one is full of photographs! Yikes – They need to be backed up to the cloud! Guess what I’m doing right this minute!
And now that I think about it, what is in all of these computer files? Time to do some deleting…and what about Dropbox – there’s lots of stuff in Dropbox that I surely no longer need, just taking up space…and One Note – what about that?!!!
By the time I’m done, I’ll have this place will be ship-shape. But did I mention that I have not yet taken my Christmas decorations down?
I so relate. Last year I purged about 3 years of old files that there was absolutely no reason for me to keep. I plan on doing that again this year. SO MUCH PAPER!

And then I become a crazy woman, and I start cleaning out all kinds of things!

I’m trying to paperless as much as I can. I get tired of shredding and culling the files. It’s endless.

But now I’m trying to clean up my computer files as well. I have stuff saved for YEARS!!! Ughhh…..

Yikes! This is me too. I’ve cut down on much of our physical clutter but the paper files and those on my computer are still weighing me down. Fortunately, my few Christmas decorations have been put away long ago.

Finally finished the Christmas decorations – But lots of computer cleanup still ahead. I just keep chipping away.

I’ve had time to do some purging this new year since I’m now working part time. I’ve taken care of a lot of clutter, clothing, and paper. But the computer…..hopeless!

Good luck with the battle against paper. That’s what I do for a living, although I think the paper will be chalking up a victory when I retire.

I’m usually the queen of organization. It just gets ahead of me! I’m kind of OCD for sure!

Oh yeah….paper files are on my declutter campaign! I wonder why they are the last thing I’ve tried to start? I’ve got boxes & boxes of old papers that have limited rhyme & reason to them…which means looking thru to see if there is anything important in them. Like my MILs files and her death certificate … I think that’s where it is and it’s one paper you do need to keep. Or scan I guess. How can I even get this started….and head down the rabbit hole with you?

I did some research (thanks Google) about what you REALLY need to keep. It’s much less than you would think! Especially since most records are now readily available on-line. But old habits die hard!

I can totally relate. We got in the mail today a letter from our mortgage company with a statement on taxes paid. I realized the file I created for things like this was piled way under several others… all sitting on top of the file cabinet. I guess I hate paper tasks still more than electronic ones, though admittedly both are laborious. Good luck on getting your own settled. – Marty

I’ve about got the paper part licked! Who knew that the computer side would be just as daunting!

OMG this stresses me out! We were gone for three weeks and had our mail held. I still have to go through all our mail! I don’t envy you, Lynn, but sorting and organizing MUST be done!

Richard just finished 2 full days of shredding papers that were no longer needed.
Me? I’m still in denial…because as soon as I start it will be weeks (not days)! 🙂

We have a local company that will shred a 50 gallon bin for about 20 bucks! Well worth it!
