Happy New Year, Voyagers! I hope this New Year’s Eve and New Years Day found you warm, cozy and introspective! As for the hubs and I, we were so lucky this year to be invited to the new cabin of some cherished friends. On Saturday afternoon, we took off for the short trip to McCall, Idaho. McCall is located just a couple of hours north of Boise on State Hwy 55. The drive north travels along the Payette River Scenic Byway, which is lovely this time of year!
Just 110 miles north of Boise on Payette Lake sits the resort town of McCall. It’s a quaint summertime playground, which has its own appeal during the winter months.
In the summertime, Payette Lake is a paradise for boats, jet skis, kayaks, paddle boards, hikers and tourists.
In the wintertime, the area’s biggest draw is Brundage Mountain Ski Resort, just 10 minutes up the hill. But during those non-skiing moments, McCall is a great place for other family friendly activities!
As for us, we were toasty warm, enjoying the company of our friends, trying to decide on appropriate resolutions, and, you guessed it…drinking wine! So how about you – where did you spend your New Year’s Eve? Next year, you might want to consider McCall!
Sounds lovely! One of these days Hubs and I will have to make it to Idaho…

It was really lovely, Kate. Even though we spent most of our time indoors in front of the fire – eating!!! ~ Lynn

Looks like a beautiful place! We were below-zero from Friday through Monday. We couldn’t get outside much at all!

It was pretty crisp in McCall as well! Sunday morning it was 6 degrees. The snow was “squeeky!” ~ Lynn

I have always admired you Minnesotans! You don’t raise wimpy children! When it gets a little cold here, our schools get closed. You guys just freeze the playgrounds and start making hockey players! Love it!!! 😉 ~ Lynn

As Ex-Minnesotans, we have seen our fair share of winter. If you dress for it and get outside and play in it, it is not so bad. Unless it is really nasty out, then stay in and stay warm. We have been to Boise and that part of Idaho beautiful. Enjoy your New Year. Keep traveling!

We love Idaho because we get all four seasons! And you are right – Great boots, the right coat, hat, gloves and sometimes gator, and it’s time to play! But we’re planning trips to Phoenix and Kauai, just in case we get too frozen! 😉 ~ Lynn

It looks beautiful… and oh, so cold. I visited Idaho for the first time last summer and, you are right, it is lovely… but I think I’ll stick to spring, summer, and fall. Yes, I am a wimp. 🙂

You would love McCall in the summertime. Warm, but not too hot. Fresh mountain air, quaint little town with all the water sports coupled with hiking and biking! Be sure to visit us again! ~ Lynn

Hi Lynn – I spent New Years Eve at home by the fire, a perfect place in our minus 20C weather! Love your photos and would love to visit Idaho sometime.

We pretty much stayed by the fire and ate too much!

The scenery looks lovely, but I don’t think you’ll ever find us in McCall during the winter time. Brrrr! A cozy cabin with a wood fire sounds pretty nice, though I’d prefer heat from the sun whenever possible. That being said, we spent Christmas in San Diego and New Year’s Eve in the desert with friends. Not bad. 🙂 Happy New Year, Lynn!

Then you will need to visit during the summer! Hiking, biking and all sorts of water sports all rolled up in a cute little mountain town! Happy New Year to you, too, Liesbet!
